With a background in book publishing, Ellen has worked in the editorial departments of Penguin Books, Reportage Press and Elwin Street Productions in London.
In 2009, after completing her MSc, Ellen moved to Lebanon, where she spent almost two years working for Time Out magazine in Beirut as a senior editor, writing on travel, food and culture in the city.
Since autumn 2011, Ellen has been freelancing in Beirut. Her work includes cultural journalism, copywriting and editing.
Ellen has a first class degree in Social Anthropology from the School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London, and an MSc in Comparative Politics from the London School of Economics, with a first class dissertation on post-war justice and the politics of memory in Lebanon.
